  • Biotechnology Company

    An affiliate of Wharton Equity Partners, Wharton Biotechnology Partners, and associated partners, invested over $24.0 million in Merrimack Pharmaceuticals, Inc., a biotechnology company located in Cambridge, MA. The company is focused on the discovery and development of novel pharmaceuticals in oncology and immunology using its proprietary systems biology platform, which was acquired from a venture between Harvard University and MIT. Since Wharton Equity Partner's initial investment, the organization has grown from 2 employees to over 160 and recently entered into a $400.0 million licensing arrangement with Sanofi Aventis that entailed an upfront payment of $60.0 million. Peter C. Lewis recently stepped down as a board member and member of the audit committee after nearly nine years.
